Read/walk at your own pace\, immersing yourself in the tranquil sights and soothing sounds of the natural world…and when you get to the end of the story/trail\, take advantage of Wood Lake’s special nature play area. \nToday’s book is The Last Tree by Maria Quintana Silva and Silvia Alvarez. One night\, the trees in the forest decided it’s time to uproot and leave. They yanked out their roots and dragged themselves off across the fields. On his way to school\, Goran soon realized what is happening… All the trees had disappeared and holes could be seen where they used to be. Bewildered\, he rushed home to find if the tree in his garden had vanished as well. He loved that tree\, it used to be his friend during springtime when he swung from his branches\, and also in summer when its leaves protected him from the hot sun. Understanding the consequences this would have for animals\, humans\, and the environment\, he set off to counteract the damage that had already been done. \nThe book is posted along the trail from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.\, and will be posted in both English and Spanish.

Zimmermann. What can smell like bubble gum\, glow neon green at night\, be poisonous and yet still eaten by humans\, and even help create rain? The answer is mushrooms! From their hidden networks underground to the fruiting body above\, mushrooms can do incredible things. But don’t call them plants–mushrooms are fungi. They’re more closely related to animals like you! Through lyrical text and colorful\, detailed artwork\, the wonderful\, mysterious\, and sometimes bizarre world of mushrooms is explored. \nThe book is posted along the trail from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  This event will be repeated on November 18 with a different book.

DESCRIPTION:Discover the wonders of nature on our enchanting Self-Guided Storybook Trail\, an experience that invites you to embark on a leisurely stroll through the captivating woodland scenery while you follow along with a book whose pages are posted along the way! Read/walk at your own pace\, immersing yourself in the tranquil sights and soothing sounds of the natural world…and when you get to the end of the story/trail\, take advantage of Wood Lake’s special nature play area. \nToday’s book is Lucy’s Light by Jo Rooks. Lucy is a lightning bug and the most talented flyer in the squad. There’s just one problem: she doesn’t light up! When it’s time to learn night flying\, Lucy is anxious. She tries everything to get her light to shine but nothing works. Lucy is about to give up when her friends are captured by a nasty toad and his gang\, who hatched a plan to brighten up their bog. Does Lucy have what it takes to save her friends? Or is she just an “ordinary” bug after all? A sweet story which shines a light on inner confidence\, self-acceptance\, and courage. Lucy learns that doing a good deed will always make you shine bright! \nThe book is posted along the trail from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  This event will be repeated on October 28 and November 18\, with a different book each time. Today’s book will also be posted in Spanish.
