Wood Lake is the layover spot of choice for dozens of migrating bird species and numerous year-round residents as well. As part of a nationwide research project, nature center staff will safely mark these birds with an aluminum band to track their movements over their lifetime. The goal is to re-capture the birds; in 2021, a red-winged blackbird that had been banded 5 years earlier was re-caught at Wood Lake!
