2.  Sledding

Augsburg Park at 7145 Wentworth and Adams Hill Park at 7200 Washburn both have great sledding hills with long runs! Be sure to be safe, including picking a sled that has brakes and can be steered, wearing a helmet, bundling up in weather-appropriate clothing, and having a responsible adult supervising the fun. Need a sled at Augsburg Park? Borrow one from the sled corral!   And visit Christian Park at 6900 Bloomington Avenue and Monroe Park at 6710 Irving Avenue for smaller sledding hills.

3.  Ice Fishing

Taft Lake at 62nd and Bloomington Avenue is loaded with fish and is a great place to keep anglers busy for hours! As a Fishing in the Neighborhood (FIN) lake, Taft Lake has been managed as a fishing pond since 1975. Available game fish include sunfish crappie, perch, northern pike, and walleyes. A fishing license is required for everyone age 16 and older.

4.  Cross-country skiing

Although rentals are not available for the 2025-26 season, you can still bring your own equipment and hit the ski trails at Wood Lake Nature Center; no trail pass required! For a convenient ski trail close to home, visit Wood Lake. The nature center has one traditional-style ski trails, 1.5 miles, that winds around the marsh and through the woods. Free to use; open daily during park hours 5 a.m.-11 p.m; click here for trail conditions and rental information.

5. Snowshoeing

Snowshoes can also be used along the walking paths at Wood Lake! Again, bring your own snowshoes and enjoy the 2-mile trail through woods and marsh. Click here for trail conditions and snowshoe rental information.
