Richfield is packed with festive traditions that are affordable or completely free. Whether you’re searching for the perfect pumpkin patch photo op, a spooky stroll, or candy- filled adventures for the kids, there’s something for you. We’ve rounded up the best budget- friendly ways to celebrate right here in the community.

1) Shop ‘til you drop: Get a jump on your costume at Richfield’s Halloween center, Value Village, to pick out costumes for both bigs and littles! Tons to choose from and it’s all budget-friendly. 6528 Penn Avenue South in Richfield.

2) Hit up the Annual Great Pumpkin Giveaway: Celebrating its 20 th year this fall, the Great Pumpkin Giveaway is one of Richfield’s most fun autumn events. Select one free pumpkin for each family, get your face painted, take a pic in the photo booth, take part in the coloring contest, and get free refreshments. You might even win a door prize while you’re there! Saturday, October 11; 10 a.m.-noon. Free. Fairwood Park in Richfield.

3) Drop by the Community Trunk or Treat: In play for seven years, this event is rapidly becoming known metro-wide! Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel at 66 th and Portland hosts the community’s annual Trunk or Treat event. Come in costume and bring a bag (or a bucket or a pillowcase) to collect goodies from Richfield businesses, clubs, and vendors. Don’t forget to bring donations to help us FILL! THAT! 4) Take a stroll through the Flashlight Storybook Trail: Bring your young kids and a flashlight to Augsburg Adventure Park for a self-guided walk along the storybook trail. Enjoy “The Halloween Tree,” a classic and non-scary tale of a grumpy tree who refuses to be used for Christmas. Costumes are welcome and encouraged! The trail will start near the Augsburg Adventure Park, and will be on the paved accessible sidewalk adjacent to the playground. 5) Stop in for a story at the Spook-tacular Storytime Costume Party: Come back to Augsburg Adventure Park on Friday October 17 or Saturday October 18 to give your littles a chance to try out their costumes and enjoy a Halloween story together. 6) Stop by Richfield’s annual Fun-Size Halloween celebration: While Wood Lake Nature Center is under construction, the same awesome annual event is happening at Veterans Park. Come in costume to this old-fashioned Halloween party with games, treats, and refreshments. Make fresh-pressed apple cider, play some games, watch magic happen right before your eyes, and go on a Halloween-themed scavenger hunt to earn a special “treat!” Admission is $8 per person; register here. 7) And just for grown-ups…don’t miss the Halloween costume party at the VFW, featuring the music of Tailspin! Tailspin plays rock and country, with fun songs from classic rock to current hits.
